Yukon Meadows 2023
2023 Yukon Meadows was made using Two Brewers Whisky barrels which we secured thanks to our Market head brewer’s history in the Yukon. The base beer is the same recipe across all Meadows releases. The Whisky from these barrels was well-balanced, resulting in a beer that is rich and chocolatey, with gentle boozy warming finish. We hope you like it.
Fruitful Pursuits: Plum 2022
Fruitful Pursuits Plum is a Mixed Fermentation blend refermented on freshly picked plums. For 2022 we used hundreds of kilograms of Damson and President plums grown in the Okanagan and supplied by our good friends Steve & Dan’s Fresh BC Fruit. The blend of 1, 2 & 3 year barrels referments on the fruit for 2 months resulting in robust plum flavours, subtle baking spice notes, and a beautiful rose colour. This is highlighted by a balanced tart acidity and velvety plum skin tannins. We hope you like it!
Kook Birds 2023
6 Month Gin Barrel-Aged Ale — Kook Birds makes its third appearance in our lineup; once again as a delightful ale. We put our Uncharted Citra in Pinot Gin barrels from our pals at Strathcona Spirits to age for 6 months. The result is a delightful and effervescent pale beer with a citrus light hop intermingled by gin botanicals. The finish is crisp and dry with lingering overripe fruit.
Mon Chester is a Mixed Fermentation blend featuring the unique characteristics of Sicilian red wine barrels. The beer is fermented in these incredibly flavourful barrels for 24 months which imparts a huge amount of the bright fruity flavours from these warm weather Sicilian red wines. These flavours caught the attention of our good friend Tom Chester so much that we named the beer after him. The result is a beer with bombastic raspberry fruitiness, juicy citrus, rose water aromatics, and candy like intensity. These flavours are highlighted by a bright, tart acidity and fleeting dry finish.
10 Month Brandy Barrel-Aged Dark Lager — The Business is a brandy barrel-aged dark amber lager inspired by our prior release, Working Overtime. The Business is aged in barrels for 10 months. Where Working Overtime was boldly effervescent, The Business is dark, smooth, and supported by a dark fruit foundation. It has a light alcohol warming and a clean, smooth finish.
1, 2 & 3 Year Spontaneous Fermentation Blend — Spontaneous Manifesto marks a milestone as The Monolith’s inaugural 100% Spontaneous Fermentation release. Made using historical methods developed in Belgium over generations, this blend of 1, 2 & 3 year barrels is our quintessential Spontaneous Fermentation blend. The result of these techniques is a unique product shaped by our local environment and indigenous microflora. It showcases classic stone fruit, apple and citric flavours and aromas with some bright red wine fruitiness, and subtle tannin, highlighted by a balanced acidity.
The Royal Cherry Raspberry
The Royal Cherry Raspberry is a Quick Turn mixed fermentation beer fermented in stainless steel tanks with a proprietary method. It was then re-fermented on Okanagan Cherries and Raspberries for 2 months. The time spent on the fresh Cherries and Raspberries adds the intense flavours, aromas, and textures of these fruits as well as notable tannin, marzipan, baking spice, and bright vanilla. This is all balanced by a medium acidity and bright high carbonation.
Bière des Charentes
Bière des Charentes is a mixed fermentation blend featuring unique characteristics imparted by a 24 month fermentation in Cognac barrels. These barrels originated in the Charente region of France where Cognac is made. The result is a blend focused on the bright fruit notes of brandy, with savoury leather and saline character. It finishes with drying tannins and subtle fennel notes, highlighted by a balanced medium acidity. We hope you like it.
Astra Primursa is the third release in the Dry Hop Series. This blend of one, two, three and four year old mixed-fermentation barrels is a collision of two worlds: old world East Kent Goldings and new world Amarillo. These two wildly different hops meld delightfully to dry hop this beer. The result is juicy grapefruit, tropical starfruit, and marmalade hop character balanced by a full, round texture and medium-high acidity.
Sojourn in Sicily
Sojourn in Sicily is a Mixed Fermentation blend featuring unique characteristics imparted by Sicilian Marsala barrels. The beer fermented in the Marsala barrels for 20 months before being blended. This blend is the first led by our brewer Ian “Nar” Nawrot who has been with the brewery since the start. The result is a robust beer with subtle red berry and rose water aromatics, savoury walnut and maple flavours, which are amplified by a medium high acidity.
Ferry of the Damned
Ferry of the Damned is a Quick Turn mixed fermentation beer fermented in stainless steel tanks for 4 months. It was then re-fermented on Riesling Grape Pomace with the addition of a special blend of microorganisms for an additional 2 months. The time spent on the Riesling pomace adds subtle wine character with additional texture and complexity. The result is a unique beer with bright citrus and wine flavours, subtle nutty aromatics, and medium light acidity. We hope you like it.
Substantially Complete 2021
1, 2, 3 Year Mixed Fermentation Blend — Substantially Complete reflects The Monolith both as a physical entity and the beer it produces. This blend is a snapshot of our mixed fermentation program year to year, using Marsala, Red Wine and Cognac barrels of different vintages. After fermenting for 1, 2, & 3 years using a house-blend of microorganisms, the result is our quintessential blend— adventurous, yet balanced, with bright peach and citrus flavour, light oxidative and wine notes, highlighted by a medium acidity.
