Now Hiring — Taproom Manager at the Monolith Brewery

Responsibilities

Management of the Taproom at the Monolith Brewery and other duties as described below.

Operating and Managing the taproom:

  • Be an expert on Blind Enthusiasm products, stay up to date and have a detailed knowledge of all brewery offerings and production methods. Develop a thorough knowledge of the brewery's beer service standards and methods, and educate your staff to maintain these standards at all times. Detailed training will be provided.
  • Provide and model a high level of customer service by establishing contact, greeting customers, educating customers, and promoting product offerings in detail, and ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.
  • Using product expertise, sell and recommend additional suitable products to customers including beer off sales and merchandise. Ensure your team does the same.
  • Work with The Monolith's cook and outside consultants on menu item development, evolving a menu that is approachable and compliments the beer offerings. This includes beer pairing items for launches.
  • Order food and ingredients for menu.
  • Participate as required in food prep and service.
  • Ensure food-safe handling and storage practices at all time.
  • Training, management and scheduling of taproom team members.
  • Creating a safe and a positive working environment for all brewery and taproom staff.
  • Cross training of staff in other company areas on Blind Enthusiasm's products.
  • Manage the Brewery Tour Program and lead brewery tours as required.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and welcoming environment. Ensure cleanliness of space including washrooms. Ensure end of day cleaning duties are performed.
  • Manage inventory and product transfer from the brewery to the taproom, includes purchasing of product as per AGLC requirements, product restocking and merchandising.
  • Ensure all cash handling policies & procedures are adhered to. Complete a daily cash-out. Handle cash, credit, and card payments. Assist with POS set up. Operate POS system and keep up to date with new product.
  • Ensure AGLC and other government guidelines are met at all times.
  • Update and maintain printed and online menus, and menu boards.
  • Manage and maintain merch inventory.
  • Draft line cleaning twice per month
  • Creating tasting notes and training sheets for new beers
  • Assist Monolith brewing operations and production when time allows, including but not limited to participation in blending and packaging.
  • Other operational tasks and duties as required. 

Promotion and Events:

  • Planning and execution of Monolith special events. Including but not limited to private events, Happy Beer Street events, Taproom/Patio events (releases, pop up chefs, tastings)
  • Working with the marketing team to generate social media posts and promotion.
  • Working with the brewing and sales team to plan release dates and events.
  • Act as the primary brewery representative in Happy Beer Street discussions and at HBS meetings. Coordinate with the Happy Beer Street members planning events.
  • Brand Ambassador – Occasional work at outside trade shows and events as required. 

Qualifications and Characteristics

  • Strong food and beverage knowledge, with an emphasis on beer
  • Previous management/team leadership experience
  • Minimum 2 years FOH restaurant or brewery customer focused experience. BOH/kitchen experience is also considerd a strong asset.
  • Personable and engaging, this is a customer service focused role!
  • Strong sales background or aptitude
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Effective teamwork skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Able to be on your feet for up to 9 hours and lift up to 75 lbs (moving kegs to service)
  • ProServe certification
  • WSET training preferred
  • First Aid Certification considered an asset, training will be provided if not already certified

Please note this full-time role will require shifts days, evenings, and weekends.

A drivers license and car are required.
