What is the Monolith?

The Monolith is one of Blind Enthusiasm’s brewery locations, designed from the ground up to create complex beers via barrel fermentation. Our barrel rooms hold hundreds of barrels, each one fermenting for one to three years, creating complex flavours and delicious results. Our Beers

Head brewer Doug Checknita brews three kinds of barrel-fermented beer: spontaneous, natural, and mixed. Each style uses a different method of introducing carbohydrate-consuming organisms into the beer. However, all three styles ferment in large-format barrels for 1-3 years. Our brewing team applies both the art and science of brewing to create beers that can age for years, resulting in complex flavours that compete with the finest wines.

The Taproom

Experience barrel-fermented beer at the Monolith’s taproom.

Our taproom serves an ever-growing selection of beer from the Monolith, on tap and in bottles. We also serve a small food menu, designed by the team at Biera to pair well with the complex brews.

The taproom is a small, intimate space with 17 bar seats and a small standing space for 8, for a total capacity of 25 people. We operate on a first come, first serve basis, with no reservations available. Enjoy great beer while you’re here, and grab your favourite bottles and merch to go.

Brewery Tours

Tour the only brewery in Canada purpose-built for spontaneous fermentation at production scale. Each tour will walk you through the brewhouse, the barrel rooms, and the coolship where the spontaneous fermentation takes place. When you’re done the tour, you’ll be guided on a tasting that showcases the difference that each fermentation technique makes.

Tours cost $15/person, and includes a guided tasting. Tours run Saturdays, and we encourage you to reserve your spot.
