This copper ale is made with exclusively English malts and hops. Its aroma has a hint of peat smoke over rich fruity malt. It has low bitterness, and the peat builds lowly in the flavor, with round stone fruit notes in balanced finish. This beer was made for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation for a Brewer for a Day auction. One dollar goes to the Foundation for each beer sold.
Best Friends Forever…forever is a hoppy, super-dry ale. Straw coloured and lightly hazy, this medium-high bitterness ale has notes of ripe pineapple, papaya, and lemongrass. Flavour displays some honeydew melon and a touch of earthiness. It finishes ultra-dry and clean. We made this beer with our good friends Town Square Brewing to commemorate the Night of Many Hats.
This crisp, session ale is a hazy, yellow color. It displays a subtle spicy aroma with hints of clove. It has low bitterness, balanced spicy fruit notes, and a restrained but accumulating tart finish created by multiple infusions of rhubarb. This is the first collaboration between our head chef and head brewer to create a beer with common ingredients between the kitchen and brewery.
Cloudy and magenta in color, this fruit ale has clove and red berry aromas, low bitterness, juicy, cranberry flavor with a tart, dry finish. Our base beer, SPF 3.82, sat on 33 kg of Haskap berries, and 9 kg of red Gooseberries to create the light acidity and bold color.
DEB’s Wet Hop Ale
This wet hop ale is a cloudy amber color. It has aromas of subtle stonefruit and toasty malt. The flavor has medium bitterness with flavors of grilled grapefruit and melon. It finishes with herbal juicy notes. We used whole cone Golding hops from the Northern Girls Hopyard (just an hour away) as a variation on our usual recipe for DEB, resulting in a surprisingly complex flavor profile.
This highly hopped ale is light amber in colour, displaying earthy aromas with a hint of burnt orange, spice and juniper berries. The flavor displays high bitterness, and has soft notes of pine and grapefruit peel in its clean, bitter finish. The name URB comes from the hops BRU-1, one of the two main hops in this beer (along with Columbus). Bru-1 is a new, fairly experimental hop from Oregon. Greg and Doug met the farmer, Bill Brulotte, that bred this hop a few years ago at the Craft Brewers Conference in Portland.
This session-strength ale is a hazy, rich gold color, with aromas of pepper and stonefruit. It displays very low bitterness, with flavours of apricot, clove, and light doughy malt. It has a surprisingly fully body and finishes very dry. SPF 3.82 was the result of a Brewer for a Day auction for the Win4Skin charity supporting skin cancer research. For each serving one dollar is donated to Win4Skin.
This highly-hopped, cloudy wheat ale is a straw color, with aromas of menthol and ripe fruit. It displays medium bitterness, with flavours of banana and herbal mint. It finishes dry, with lingering spicy bitterness. Whoops was a happy accident where our brewers created a hoppy wheat beer instead of the milder beer they had planned because of an unexpected ingredient change.
Union Bhoys Lager was brewed in celebration of the Soccer Team Union St-Gilloise in Brussels, Belgium. This lager was brewed with both wheat and barley, giving it a hazy yellow colour. It has floral and melon fruit aromatics, with clean malt, honey dew, and lychee flavours followed by a dry, lightly bitter finish.
This hop forward brew puts forth strong grapefruit and citrus pith flavours with a clean bitterness. Dark gold in colour with a lasting white head, the bitterness of this ale is accentuated by its dry finish.
Street Beat Pollen Wheat
Our second “Brewer for a Day” Auction beer benefitting the Stollery Children’s Hospital (2017) is a Belgian-style wheat beer enhanced with the addition of pollen to give it a floral and earthy quality. It’s also light, fresh, effervescent, and very dry. For each pour of this beer one dollar will be donated to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. This beer received a Bronze Medal at the 2018 Alberta Brewing Awards.
This special collaboration beer was conceived with Corey the Butcher, of ACME. While sharing beers with our pal, we came up with the idea for this red-coloured, hop-forward ale. The surprisingly dry and clean finish accentuates the citrus, fruity, resinous notes, and bold bitterness. The malt adds additional stone-fruit character to support the double dry-hopping of this beer. This beer received a Gold Medal at the 2018 Alberta Brewing Awards.
